I took my son and a buddy from work to go snowboarding at Okemo for the day. We were wheels up at 7:00am and had a beautiful flight up to Vermont. As we approached the airport, there were some low clouds that might interfere with the landing, so we called ATC and asked to make the approach IFR. The approach was granted and we flew the GPS approach to runway 5 at Springfield (KVSF) airport.

The day was great, but I'm not as young as they used to be. By 2pm, my legs were shot! My son and my buddy are both much younger than me, so they were fine, but I needed to get off the mountain! By the time we reached the base and I stepped off my snowboard, both my thighs were in a complete, full-seizure cramp! I couldn't even walk. It sucks getting old!

On the trip home, we needed to file IFR to get through some clouds hanging around the airport. We had a little bit of freezing rain during the middle of the trip, but nothing accumulated on the wings. We made an uneventful landing at 5:30pm and a great day was had by all.
A day trip to Vermont is one of the reasons I learned to fly.
