I'm devastated! I did not pass my FAA checkride today. But I didn't fail it either. The examiner gave me a deferral.
The oral exam went fine. About and hour of questions without any surprises or gaffs. The examiner gave me a few clarifications and amplifications to my answers, but the CFI said that's typical.
During the actual checkride, the winds became more intense than is desirable and prevented us from completing the examination. Since I made the decision to launch into the weather, technically I failed. However, the examiner decided to “defer” the remainder of the test to another day. I've successfully completed about ¾ of the exam – we still need to do some soft-field and short-field takeoffs and landings and some time under the hood.
I will try to complete the test next week.
